THROUGH THE WIRES

Ringing up a friend on gloomy times just to say “Abu” and hearing the laughter on the other end before you hang up amazingly fills the heart with sheer joy.  You’d think it ridiculous wasting airtime and a few bucks on overseas calls just to speak your heart.  But no, it’s not ridiculous nor a waste.  It’s an added wealth… in spirit.  Like dear friend ‘mamu’ said that nothing’s wasted on an essential human being.  We see eye to eye on this as with some other realities.  Saying what you feel at the moment is doubly joyful when you know you brought smile to the recipient’s eyes and lips or played a song in his heart.  So go ahead, sing your heart’s song to anyone near or far.  It’s a high… way too higher than what you get from dark tsokolate :) giving you a sweet richer feeling!

I haven’t spoken with this grade school girl friend for over a year but the moment she lifted the phone, said her “hello?”, and heared my “Willz?!”, she blurted out, “Joy!!!”  I asked why she knew right away that it’s me on the line.  Her reply?  “Of course, you’re my only friend who calls me ‘Willz’!”  And you’re the one who called me ‘Joy to the weird’ in high school, silly belly!  Willz’s laughter is contagious and carries over from Manila to Ifugao… to Vancouver.  ;-D

And definitely, my Jus bunny would know it’s his ‘poppy’ on the other end when he hears “Abu, pogi” or “Ompoy” through the wires.  I rarely use the usual ‘hello’ when I’m on the phone with my dear ones.

I guess it’s not my voice that gives me away, making it easy to identify me on the other end of the line, but the loving names and terms of endearment I give to these unique, lovable individuals.  My grade school bestfriend Rebz is ‘bestdocganda’ –the very humble, big-hearted sweet lady.

And there’s Arvin ‘Pats’ (kuripot yan. ‘ala pa tawag;), Marlz, Lanz ‘bru‘ and Jonzky –isa pa yan:)

My mamu…  The best.  Abu period.

The vibration carries through the wires…
